Meet Saachi Roye | Chief Technology Officer at CaseCTRL

Saachi CTO ShoutOut HTX Interview

Our Chief Technology Officer, Saachi Roye was recently interviewed by ShoutOut HTX, where he shared more about his career journey, work-life balance, and growing family!

Hi Saachi, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
In my single years, working long hours and then socializing late into the night with friends was a no-brainer. Eventually, as it does for some, it got old and boring. I started to crave the life my father leads. This led me to find the girl I am happy to call my wife. With the new responsibilities of being a husband and father to a one-year-old, I had to quickly adapt to my new lifestyle. It was effortless finding balance when it was just my wife and myself, but with the one-year-old baby, it is definitely much harder. For instance, the day my daughter was born, in the hospital, while my wife and daughter were resting I was hard at work migrating from one cloud service provider to another. I always strive to be there for my family and simultaneously search for opportunities when I can complete my work. Luckily at CaseCTRL, we have adopted flexible work schedules for our employees which makes it much easier to put in our work without having to be present for a normal 9-5 job.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Starting as a junior software developer at CountryWatch, a news startup subscription service, I quickly learned HTML, CSS, and Javascript. My manager was impressed with my administration of the website, that it wasn’t long before I was given responsibility for managing the backend adding VB.NET, C#, and SQL programming to the list of growing duties. This exposed me to the challenges of unifying front-end and back-end development. The excitement and opportunity to contribute to the entire tech stack helped foster my passion for startups. After a stint as an enterprise developer, I quickly realized that I enjoyed contributing to startups more. I joined another startup building an online job marketplace designed to help employers find the right talent. As their lead software developer, I took on the challenge of developing the entire application from scratch including managing the server infrastructure. Applying a diverse set of skills acquired through the years was very fulfilling. Once the beta version was released my manager promoted me to Director of Product Development which brought on a new set of challenges. I gained experience in management while serving as Director of Product Development. I built an offshore development team to support our growing application and had to source, interview, and hire the team while at the same time managing the rest of my duties. With my successes getting multiple startups off the ground, I was recruited to join CaseCTRL, an AI-powered surgical scheduling subscription service. CaseCTRL is a service that aids burnt-out medical professionals and provides better healthcare to patients. I love to study new things, and my work at CaseCTRL has given me many opportunities to do so. Despite serving as CTO, I continue to acquire new skills and improve existing ones. With lots of opportunities to expand my knowledge of new medical terminology or workflows, and grow a development team, there is never a dull moment at CaseCTRL.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My father, Charanjiv, is an inspiration to me and deserves a shout-out! He lost his wife, my mother, due to muscular dystrophy when I was young. Running the household, living with an adolescent child, and building a successful construction business were left on his shoulders. His dedication to providing the best life possible for me has made me the person that I am today. His work-life balance was excellent, he always left work at the office, and at home, he maintained focus on knowing what was going on in my life. A funny story about him was in 1995 when the Houston Rockets won the NBA championship, he took time out of his day to take me to watch the MVP Award going to Hakeem Olajuwon. The moment Hakeem stepped onto the stage, roughly 50,000 fans were cheering at the top of their lungs. I looked over to my dad and see that he was “resting his eyes” comfortably. Even though he was tired beyond belief, he still made sure to be present in a memorable moment in my life. Oh, yea, can’t forget to give a shout-out to my wife and my daughter!
